The Last Divine

You walk a path you were never meant to survive...

The Last Divine  is a text-based fantasy romance set in the medieval-inspired realm of Jeilene. It is a character-driven interactive fiction novel that loosely borrows from elements of Greek Mythology. The choices you make throughout will shape your personality, your abilities, and ultimately the trajectory of Jeilene's future. They will also influence the relationships you form, whether platonic, romantic, or something altogether more nefarious...

═════════════

The Story

Hunted by the King’s most ruthless assassins with powers you do not yet understand, you are thrust into a struggle for survival. Raised alone in a tower by your Master Galen since birth, you know little of the world beyond, and even less of why the birthmark on your chest has branded you for death. Your master warned you that this day would come. That, one day, you would be hunted. Even so, he's been evasive about what lies ahead—only that the answers you seek can be found in the heart of the capital. Your only guides are the uncertain allies you meet along the way—each carrying their own secrets.

═════════════

Jeilene

Sheltered as you are, you know little of Jeilene and its Immortal King, Icarus. Only what you've managed to glean from the books Galen would bring you during his trips to the nearby village, New Haven, for supplies. People whisper that he is The Last Divine, half-gods that once ruled the lands when food was plentiful and blood did not run as freely. Whether man or Divine, when he sends his huntsmen for you, you do the only thing you can to ensure that you see the next sunrise- you run.

═════════════

Customizable MC

Have the ability to fully customize MC, including name, pronouns, hair color, eye color, skin color, and height. The choices you make throughout the game will determine MC's personality, which is also customizable. Choose to play while pursuing love, or forego romance and focus on carving out your place in Jeilene while surviving the wrath of its Immortal King, Icarus, and his Huntsmen.

═════════════

The Love Interests

Kyliah (he/him) – The Seer

Mysterious and enigmatic, Kyliah looks at you like you are his salvation—or his ruin. He has had visions of you long before your first meeting in the forest. His usual soft-spoken nature only makes the fierceness with which he protects you even more unexpected.

Remus (he/him) – The Knight

Hardened by years of battle and bloodshed, Remus is determined to put an end to the King's carnage—no matter the cost. But when he meets you, he starts to question his convictions, and whether he's truly willing to pay the price peace demands.

Severin (he/him) – The Necromancer

Stoic and commanding, Severin spends more time with the dead than the living. His interest in you is an exception to his self-imposed isolation. He would have you believe that his motivations are entirely selfish. But he knows things he shouldn't—about you, and the people that hunt you.

Axis (he/him) – The Dragon Rider

An unapologetic flirt, the only thing that burns hotter than his touch is his dragon. Though he takes an immediate interest in you, Axis has his own reasons for offering to help you on your journey. But what does he hide behind his silver tongue and charming wit?

Trigger warnings for character violence, sexual situations, sexual content depending on game choices (can opt out of), and possible character death.

═════════════

Survival Stats

Play with 5 survival stats: hunger, thirst, vitality, arcane stability, and blood price, each of which must be managed as the player navigates a  world of forsaken gods and fractured magic. Or forego these survival elements and toggle survival stats off for a cozier gaming experience. (Default/playing via browser automatically enables playing with survival stats. Download the game below to play without them).  Uncover the secrets of Jeilene in a branching narrative where every choice matters.

Could there maybe be a settings option, both to mute and unmute music, and the option to change the font to something more accessible? I genuinely am having a hard time reading the fancy text, and can't tell what it says. I've just now started the game, and am excited to get into it, but I would appreciate these features. :D (I'm playing in the itch.io desktop app by the way. I noticed there were light and dark versions in the file list, but I haven't a clue which one launched unfortunately lol)

Edit: As I play more, I notice that when I picked an option that added 3 logic to my stat, every time I go into one of the menu options (personality, relationships, etc), then click back to story, it'll bring me back to the text explaining the action I took, but I noticed it continuously adds 3 logic every time I go to one of the menu selections then hit back to story, because it brings me back to that text right after the choice, which is where the variable gets added to my stats. As in I should've only had 3 logic because of the choice I made, but if I keep clicking on a menu selection, then hitting back to story, I can just keep going and have like 12 logic without even progressing the story more, which seems a little unbalanced.

Promising game with a very interesting story although there are a few bugs.

In general you should store the pronoun sets as ints and use if macros to replace the entire sentence.

<<if $pronouns == 0>>\

They are hurt.\

<<else if $pronouns == 1>>\

She is hurt.\

<<else>>\

He is hurt.\

<<endif>>

You also should use "\" at the end of lines to remove the empty space created by them.

At the end of the second chapter in the tavern shortly before leaving the city the pronouns get reset to "she/her".

Wow this was so good!! I came here looking for a fun game to play but I ended up finding a masterpiece?? 🙏 The plot is rlly intriguing and the ROs are all so well-written and amazing, I like how different their personalities are and they all have their own charms. How come I like them all oh my?? even the King can't escape my eyes 🤣 If I gotta pick a fav thou, it's definitely Severin, I like my men mysterious and cool lmao. Looking forward to playing the next chapter, Ik it's gonna be great ❤

It was an interesting read, even though slightly abrupt at times. Still, I am pretty confused how personality works. Its description is basically different between the downloaded and browser versions. I played the light to theme, no stats, and the personality description basically ignored the cunning stat that was the highest as long as any other stat rises to a value higher than zero.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with me on the personality system! 🙂 If you rated highest in cunning, then your personality type should have either been Blade Cloaked in Velvet or A Kiss of Fire and Ice depending on your other personality stats. Which personality title was showing for you? What differences did you notice between the browser version and the downloaded version? It's possibly I may have forgotten to update a part of the light version, I checked but I didn't see any differences. If you see some, please let me know and I'll go back and change those now 🙂

Also, I would love your feedback on which parts felt abrupt to you, so that I can go in and smooth out those transitions! Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback to help me improve The Last Divine, I really appreciate it ❤️

(1 edit)

I don't go over much in the browser versions, so I probably was too rash to judge. As for the downloaded one, it was Kiss when it was the only one, then I got courage to like 2, and it changed to The Flame of The Wilds. Then to Sage of Libertine with a bit of logic. In the end, when it announced that that personality is locked,

The Sage of Libertine

Personality Description:

Patient and observant, you prefer to gain knowledge and understanding before you act. Though this often gives you the upper hand, at times this can lead you to hesitate when action is necessary.

Empathy: 3

Cunning: 8

Logic: 4

Bravery: 2

Intuition: 3

Charisma: 3

By the way, Blade Cloaked in velvet sounds so cool! Which stats can get me it?)

this is actually AMAZING. I love Axis sm

I can't wait for more!!! This was definitely one of my favorite interactive novels I've played!

(1 edit)

I'm here for this 😊. Its a promising start! I rly appreciate the timely update! Its reassuring

(+2)

Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying The Last Divine so far (and the timely update hehe)🙂 I already have a good portion of chapter three written so hopefully it won't be too longer before the next update!🙂

(+2)

Very Good i check back frequently and I am Happy to see an update so Soon. Great interesting story interested in how It progresses 😁Kyliah is Sweet. There are several Gender errors (Female pronouns in chapter2, when usingTheyThem pronouns errors such as "they want*s*"), Missing letters/words and some Mis placed characters. Has Little effect on reading but I thought I would Let You Know.

(+1)

i can Compile these errors if it would Help you👍👍👍

This would be amazing!!!!Thank you so much💗

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to let me know about the they/them gender errors🙂 The female pronouns in chapter two should be fixed in the latest build! Regarding the rest, right now sadly it's more of a skill issue on my end, I'm still learning the basics of coding and with they/them pronouns, because they affect more than just the variable/word itself, but also the grammar of the words that come before and after, making those changes becomes a lot more complex with the code itself. I am working on this though! And I hope to have it completely corrected by the next update 🙂

(+2)

Its an interesting game and i enjoy the world and story but i cant help feeling that the mc is... useless? they lack any form of agency and cant seem to do anything themself, i know they dont understand the world around them but it really feels like you could give the mark to any of the other characters and there would be no point to the mc. also the personality system locks in a little too early for my tastes

(+2)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on The Last Divine with me! Having the personality system lock in too soon was a concern for me, so I may consider extending that further depending on if that's the general consensus/experience people have when playing. And I understand how MC could come off as lacking agency in the beginning. This will change as MC grows and comes into their own (both in terms of their Divine Dominion and in being allowed the freedom to explore who they are beyond the walls of the tower). A major theme in TLD is "who the world tells you that you are" vs. "who you choose to be". It will be clearer how this is at play in later chapters as MC gains agency :)

(+1)

i'll keep an eye on this for now then, i can see it growing on me as the story continues

Hihi!!! Just want to say that this is a wonderful game!! It's really neat! However there seems to be a lot of gender bugs in the game, while playing with male pronouns selected most of the time- especially in chapter 2- everyone refers to the player with female pronouns occasionally (there's even a magician which gives you a rose who call the male player a lady) and it sorta put me off a bit or even confused me at times because I thought the characters were referring to a different female character. (I'm playing in the browser version though so maybe that is the issue?) Anyhow I love the theme of this game and the godly vibes/magic going on :DD can't wait to read more when it comes out!

Hi CuppoChinno, I appreciate you taking the time to play The Last Divine and I'm so glad you like it! I apologize for all the gender bugs, I will be going in tonight to correct those, so they should be taken care of soon. I can definitely understand how it would be confusing/jarring and break the immersion, thank you for giving TLD a chance in spite of that. Time to go troubleshoot:)

(+1)

hi here to say that i love the game so far ,every character look super interesting (the mc above everyone) i arrived at one point that finish with "fear".

Is that the end of the capter?

Again love the game very much can't wait to see more

I'm glad you're enjoying the game so far! Yes that's the end of chapter two, sorry about the lack of clarity on my end there. I'll be updating the most recent version to have "end of chapter two" listed there soon!

(+2)

I'm totally loving chapter 2! Even though I read the beta version, now it feels like I'm reading a whole different chapter, with all the new things that have been added to the public release. The only thing I didn't particularly like, was the fact it doesn't tell you when the chapter ends, but other than that, amazing game! Can't wait for the next chapters!!!

(+1)

Hi PLanManz, I'm so glad you like chapter two!!  Haha yeah I went back and added a lot of stuff, I'm glad it's different enough that you were still able to enjoy the experience even though you read the beta version :) Oh no, really?! I thought I put something at the end saying "end of chapter"! I went back and checked and its showing up on my current version on the desktop, did you read the chapter on your computer or on mobile?  Unless I somehow managed to upload a version where I didn't add that 😅

(+1)

I'm reading it on computer, so perhaps it's just the version I'm using? Maybe it's just the play in browser version. I still enjoyed reading it none the less, it's not much of a issue for me. Keep up the amazing work! :)

This is so bizarre! I played it in the browser on my computer on itchio to try and test it out, this is what I see on my last page:

Other people are seeing it pop up without the chapter two end part as well XD I'm so confused haha, maybe it's an issue with itchio not updating to the most recent version? I have to go back and edit some pronoun errors, so I'll completely remove this version and update it to make sure it's loading the right one. Thanks for pointing this out :) Otherwise I'd have no idea lol!

(+3)

I love this game so far! The premise is amazing and im already so hooked on the story.

However, I did come across a few pronoun errors(?) in turns 60 (When Kyliah was speaking to Axis), 66 (when the street magician speaks to mc), 75 (when the maid apologizes to mc), and 77 (when the guard was talking about mc to Remus). I had chosen he/him for my mc's pronouns and occasionally instead of 'he' it'll be 'she' while talking about mc

(+1)

I'm glad you're enjoying the game so far! Thank you for pointing out these errors!! I will go in and recode these before the next update. This is from a coding error on my end, I'm sorry about that! Thanks for taking the time to point out the turns where the pronoun errors are, this will make going back and correcting it so much easier haha.

(+2)

Hi I would like to report an error

I am stuck in this part of Chapter 2(turn 74),When I click "Continue," a black screen appears

(1 edit)

Is this the turn where you see the flowerbed? If so, can you send me a screenshot of the turn right before the blank page and let me know which version you're using? Thank you!

I am using a Windows system to run the webpage.

After turning from turn 74 to turn 75, the screen turned black.

I tried to send a picture, but itch kept showing an errorTT

(+1)

Hmmm did you  restart the game when you played the new chapter 2 build or did you use a prior save file? Because of how I had to code some things in chapter two, you have to restart the game from the beginning of chapter 1 in order for chapter 2 to run smoothly without any errors. Hope that helps!

Oooooh,thank you! I'll give it a try!

I used the save file from the end of Chapter 1 directly  orz

That should fix the problem :) Sorry about that!

(+1)

I really like the game's setting and plot development!

only one question: which LI is the yandere?

(1 edit) (+4)

Thank you, I'm glad you like the game setting and plot development so far!  Sooo hehe technically there are two yanderes, but they're  very different in how they express that element of their personality.  One of them is a hidden/secret route that doesn't become available till later in the game and is not listed on the game page under love interests. I don't want to give too much away by telling you the other, but chapter two will be releasing verrrry soon, and there are a couple major hints about this in it :)

(1 edit)

Hi there, love the work so far. However, I've encountered an issue early on which stops me from progressing at all. After falling asleep after the attack and on the page where the character wakes to the sound of a scream there is no option to continue, no option to select and only an a/n to go back and meet axis, and even if I do I come across the same issue again and again.

I want to keep playing but I have no idea what the issue is. If it helps, I'm seeing a lot of the text being pushed down to the bottom of the screen, so is it possible that its a hardware or software issue?

(+1)

Hi Outspoken!

Thanks for reaching out, this is actually due to a lack of IF etiquette on my part haha. That is the end of the first chapter, I should have made that clear with some sort of text like "end of chapter 1" at the end. Sorry for the confusion!  I'm in the process of editing chapter 2 now and incorporating input from beta readers, so the next chapter should be out soon! I will also make sure to include some sort of text at the end of future chapters denoting that that is the end to avoid creating confusion. Sorry about that!

(+2)

Your plan for the story is certainly one of the more intriguing ones I’ve encountered! I see that chapter 1 has only recently been released, however I greatly anticipate the release of more interactive details and chapters to the game :D

In short : me like your game 🧌

(1 edit)

Hi Alvirin, thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed chapter 1 and that you're looking forward to the next chapter! Chapter 2 is done and will be out soon once I finish editing :) I appreciate you taking the time to comment and share your thoughts on the story so far!

(+1)

On the page that starts with "You can't help but notice that they haven't asked you what happened" and ends with "Only one thing brings you comfort now, when everything else is so foreign and unfamiliar," there are the four options that give you points towards your divine dominion. But if you click the "Divine Dominion" button after choosing one of the options, and then you click "return to story," it takes you back to that same page where you can choose one of the options again. You keep the points though so the page can be farmed repeatedly for infinite points. Not sure how much these points will matter later on but I wanted to let you know in case. Also, the game puts mine as death even though celestial is higher. I tested it with other combinations as well and death seems to be locked in once I've picked it twice (4 points) no matter how much I pick the other options or in what order.

Hey Marz, thanks for making me aware of this. I thought  I'd fixed the code but it looks like it needs a bit more tweaking. I appreciate you letting me know, Divine Dominons will likely be locked in around chapter five, so I'll need to make sure I correct it early so there aren't any problems later on in the game. And thank you for the screenshot! That makes understanding exactly what's going on so much easier! Time to go and see where I messed up haha! Quick question, was the Death Dominion the first dominion you scored highest in? I'm wondering if that's why its stuck on death- like when the code registered that you'd met the eligibility requirements for that Divine Dominion, it didn't re-roll the numbers after that because of the way the code is set up to calculate it. I hope that makes sense XD

(+1)

It happened regardless of what order I scored high in. In that screenshot, I had scored highest in celestial, then got points in lunar, and then death. I tried again after getting lunar first, then celestial, then nature, and then I just got 4 points in death and it swapped to death. Another time I did celestial, 4 points in death, and then nature, and it stayed as death again, even though everything else was higher.

(+1)

Oof, that's good to know. I'm definitely going to have to play around and see where I messed up. Thanks so much for testing out the game mechanics and letting me know about the error. Divine Dominions will play a major role in determining the trajectory of certain scenes in the story moving forward, so I need to get this taken care of before I release chapter two (which is over halfway written).

(+1)

hi! just played this for the first time. firstly, i would like to say that im intrigued by the premise and am looking forward to having more of this story!

some feedback:

  • on the last page, there is a typo where you wrote "intersts" instead of "interests"
  • while i like use of music to set the tone/ambiance, for me, i found that it changes tracks too often and veers into being distracting/grating rather than supplementing the vibe - specifically, between when you leave galen and when you wake up with kyliah and remus, i think the track changes 4 times? additionally, and this might just be a me thing, i found the tracks to be on the loud side.
  • this might also be personal preference, but i found axis' introduction to be kind of jarring. he shows up out of nowhere with a dragon, and it feels like the MC does not have the choice to be as freaked out by this guy as i feel a sane person would. i kinda wish i had the option to run away from him immediately LOL

anyway, my MC currently has the sage of light personality, and im keeping my eyes on remus and severin romance-wise. looking forward to the next update!

Hi! Thank you so much for the feedback! I really appreciate you taking the time to tell me what you thought of the game! I appreciate you pointing out the typo, I will go back and fix this before the next update. Regarding the music, I was worried the transitions might be a bit too jarring (especially in the beginning), thank you for letting me know that you felt that it distracted from the immersion. I may take out the music transition during the fight scene with the three huntsmen and keep the ambient forest music so that it's less jarring. For the scene with Axis, you make a good point that it might be better for me to restructure that section to where the dragon petting portion can be bypassed depending on her response so that her apprehension is reflected in her actions. Sometimes I develop blind spots in my writing and I don't have a beta reader, so thank you for lending your perspective!

(+2)

no worries! i leave feedback because i like where this is going and want to see it grow and improve. i'm looking forward to future updates! also, please feel free to reach out to me if you'd like a beta reader -- i'm not really a writer myself but i read a lot and love to edit, i tend to edit things in my head even as i'm reading them LOL.

That would be amazing if you'd be willing to be a beta reader for upcoming chapters before I officially publish them! I'm still working on chapter two, but once I finish it I will reach out and see if you're still interested/available to be a beta reader for it. Thank you, it will be really helpful to get feedback on it and make changes prior to publishing it! Hehe editing is my least favorite part, I enjoy the writing more, so this will be a good balance!

(+1)

yes, please do :- ) i sometimes dont check itch for a long time so if you cant get a hold of me, i have the username pixiemelon most other places!

Hey!  I have good news! Chapter two of TLD is done and I have a good portion of chapter three finished! Let me know if you'll have any free time at any point in the next couple weeks to look it over and give me your thoughts :)

(+2)

Didn’t expect the addition of “relationship” part, and I’m very happy that the changes are made! And many thanks to the fixed bug

Though I find out again that IOS isn’t able to see the character customization part QAQ (Guess my next phone won’t be Apple lol)

I'm glad you liked the addition of the "relationship" page! And thanks so much for letting me know about the technical issues! I have iOS too, I tried out the character customization part on my phone and I was able to see it clearly. Maybe it varies by model?  Are you able to post a screenshot or describe what you're seeing on that page so I can troubleshoot it  a little further?

(-1)

The model is iPhone12 pro, I found out that after I put in my name and pronouns, the game automatically starts Chapter 1 :(

(1 edit) (+1)

Hmm it sounds like maybe it's running off of the old build then? If you downloaded the game, I'd try uninstalling and then reinstalling to the latest build (The Last Divine 12). It should be the one currently available on the game page. If you're playing on a browser, clearing your cache or cookies and then restarting the game might help to resolve the issue.

(+1)

Thanks so much  for the advice! I am using Safari as the browser and even after I restarted the app it still won’t take me to the character personalization page, though the “Character Traits” works just fine.

PS: I just tried using Chrome and the same thing happened :(

(+1)

Of course! Hmmm so the Character Traits page works just fine but not the Personality page? Does it give you any sort of error message?

(+2)

ooh this seems very interesting so far! looking forward to further chapters <3

Thank you, I'm glad you like it so far! I'm hoping to have the next chapter out relatively soon, and character pictures to put on the game page for anyone who prefers a visual reference!

(+1)

A very interesting start! Can’t wait to see more :3  Currently my personality is Flameheart.

For me my favorite RI is Severin because I take a liking to RI who has a rather cold personality :)

Though I do realized that when I played the game on iOS phone, the “save”, “load” and “restart” don’t work out of error, but the “saves” button is fine.

(+1)

Thanks for playing The Last Divine! I'm glad you like Severin, he's definitely one of the more complex love interests in the game, and definitely one I'm looking forward  to writing more of!

Whoops, thanks so much for letting me know that on iOS the "saves", "load", and "restart" buttons aren't working.  I'll make a note to troubleshoot this over the weekend.  I didn't play test it fully on iOs, an oversight on my part. I appreciate the heads up!

(1 edit) (+1)

Yay! Patiently waits the next chapter :)

Ur welcome! I’m very interested about MC’s true magical ability and his future development haha

(+1)

will there be other romance options?

(+2)

Hi! Other than the 4 love interests mentioned on the game page, there will be one other secret romance option.  They won't be listed under the same section as the others, but they are mentioned on the game page somewhere else.

(+1)

I'm definitely interested in this so far! I also like the little personality test aspect to it.

Thank you, I'm so glad you're interested so far! I'm glad you like the personality aspect as well, diversifying MC's personality was one of the funnest elements to play around with!
